Bipolar Disorder A Serious Mental Illness - 980 Words
Bipolar Disorder I decided to do my research paper on Bipolar Disorder. The reason I chose to do my paper on Bipolar disorder is because it is a serious mental illness. Those with bipolar disorder often describe their experience as an emotional roller coaster. Going up and down between strong emotions can keep a person from having anything approaching a normal life. The emotions of a personsââ¬â¢ behavior with bipolar disorder experience as beyond ones control. This condition is exhausting not only for the suffer, but for those who come in contact with him or her as well. Bipolar disorder, which is also known as manic-depressive illness. Itââ¬â¢s a brain disorder that causes unusual shifts in mood, energy, and ability to function. The symptoms of bipolar disorder are severe. They can result in damaged relationships, abuse drugs, poor job or school performance, and suicide. Bipolar disorder causes dramatic mood swings from high, and irritable to sad and hopeless, and then back again, often with periods of normal mood in between. Studies have shown that patients with bipolar disorder often abandon their treatment plan within the first year and have rates of nonadherence to their medication regimen that range from 35 percent to 65 percent.
